LATVIA TEAM – Sabile Camp Days 3 & 4

June 20, 2024

Come Rain or Shine!

Wednesday at Sabile was greeted with rain. Lot’s of rain. But this did not dampen our spirits and led to some creative sports rotations in the school hallway! We also explored how Moses found trust in God, even when he felt unworthy. God spoke to Moses through a burning bush and commissioned him to “Let my people go!”

Among the highlights for in-class time, is preparation for the end-of-week Dramas that will be featured during the camp celebration, on Friday. There appear to be some interesting things being created as props for the event! It will be fun to see how they all turn out!

When the team returned to our guesthouse, the cold and wet weather brought a welcome night in. We ate traditional Pelmeni (East European pasta stuffed with meat). Then we settled in to watch a powerful historical narrative movie about the Baltic countries defeat of the Soviets through song, called The Singing Revolution. While the focus was mostly on the neighboring country of Estonia, all three Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – banded together in 1991, by declaring their independence from the Soviet Union. In Estonia, not a single drop of blood was shed, as hundreds of thousands united in choral song to defeat their occupiers. It is truly inspirational and remarkable. We highly recommend you take time to watch The Singing Revolution.

Thursday welcomed us with sunshine and warm weather! Spirits were even brighter and the students really seemed to enjoy their time at English Bible Camp. Today we focused on Moses trusting in God to boldly lead the Israelites out of Egypt, part the Red Sea, and lead them into the promise land!

Lunch is hosted by a local restaurant, which requires a several minute walk from the school, through the beautiful town of Sabile, which was founded in the mid-1200s!

As part of a reminder that God worked through Moses to part the Red Sea, today’s craft was creating a fancy red fish! Everyone enjoyed it so much that several students asked to draw a picture of the parted sea on which to mount their fish!

Because the weather was so incredible, the team decided to prepare a fire and grill traditional Shashlik (East European shishk-kabab), along with roasted potatoes, and a traditional salad. No one is going hungry on this team!

With tomorrow being Friday, we are preparing last minute lessons, drama rehearsals, and small gifts to give to each of our students and for our incredible translators. It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of our mission to Latvia. God has worked in amazing ways and encouraged each of us in our calling to ministry. To God be the glory!

Thank you for your continued prayers and support!

Here’s how you can stay involved and what you can do!

Pray Continuously: Set aside time each day to pray for the mission trip. Pray for the team’s stamina and health. Pray for the people we will serve, and for the work God will do in and through us in Sabile. Pray especially for the Roma children and their families. We hope many will join us and be impacted by the camp. Pray for people to grow in curiosity toward Jesus and His Good News.

Stay Updated: Follow along on our ministry blog for more updates and inspiring stories from the camp. Your comments and encouragements are greatly appreciated and help us feel connected to our church family back home.
