Hope in War and a Culture of Domestic Servitude
Imagine living in a country where war has displaced millions and destroyed entire towns, cities, and villages. Where countless numbers of schools and universities have been erased from the face of the earth, removing any hope for students seeking higher education. This is the reality for hundreds of thousands of young people living in Ukraine.
Or, imagine living in a Muslim culture where teenage girls are still married off in arranged marriages and conscripted to a life of domestic servitude, with little hope for pursuing their dream of a degree or building a career, outside the home. This is the reality for thousands of girls living in Albania.
SON has an opportunity to change these realities and we are asking for your help to build the SON Generation of Faith Education Initiative.
In partnership with Menaul School* in Albuquerque, SON has already identified and enrolled 7 Ukrainian refugee high school students and 2 Albanians. This has given them the opportunity to function 24/7 in English, while learning in a college preparatory, Western academic environment. Graduation from Menaul School guarantees each student in-state tuition (which currently is free for all four years of undergraduate study) at any one of five New Mexico universities.
This means we’re in it for the long-haul, and have already identified many other students for the coming academic years. The goal is to educate and develop strong Christian leaders who can return equipped to effect profound change in their home countries. The cost to support and house each student, from high school through university, is over $50,000.
Together, we can be the change of faith for generations to come. Would you consider helping by sending support for Ukrainians and Albanians to have hope in a new future?
