Albania Camp (Week 1: Day 3)

July 2, 2025

From Fish Tales to Faith Trails

“From the depths of a fish’s belly, Jonah cried out:

In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.”
— Jonah 2:1-2

Whether we’re attempting to walk on water like Peter or finding ourselves in deep waters like Jonah, God’s rescue is always at hand. Our camp theme, “How God Rescues Us,” is making waves—pun intended—with our students.

By Day 3, the transformation is evident. High schoolers, once too cool for school, are now enthusiastically singing “The fruit of the Spirit” with hand motions! It’s a sight to behold. Miracles do happen!

Craft time was equally engaging. Each camper meticulously crafted a reticulating fish from a single square of construction paper. Tonight, as they drift to sleep, thoughts of Jonah’s three-day fishy accommodation might swim through their minds. Our hope is that they grasp this truth: with faith and obedience, God can accomplish the impossible.

The week is sailing by faster than anticipated. Morning greetings now come with hugs and heartfelt compliments. One student told Carolyn, “I seriously want you to know that you are a very good teacher!” Moments like these warm our hearts.

Please continue to pray that our students internalize the unwavering love God has for them. Even when we falter or flee, His grace remains. With Him, we can brave the storms and walk on water. Apart from Him, we’re just treading water.
