Meet Mark Wilhelm: Joining the SON Team in a New Role

July 26, 2025

If you’ve been part of the Spiritual Orphans Network family for any length of time, you know we’re passionate about building relationships that last—relationships that not only cross continents, but also transform hearts. It’s why I’m honored to step into this new season as SON’s Director of Donor Growth & Formation.
My name is Mark Wilhelm. I’ve been connected to SON and global missions for over two decades. For nearly thirty years now, I’ve served in parish ministry, walking with people through life’s joys, losses, questions, and breakthroughs. I’ve preached and taught, but more than that—I’ve listened. And again and again, I’ve heard this echo: “I want my life to matter, but I don’t know how to get there.”

That’s a question I love explore with people!

At SON, I get to help spiritually curious people—donors, mission alumni, church partners, and friends like you—break free from inaction or spiritual stagnation and step into lives marked by joyful generosity and discipleship. My goal is to equip you with tools that help you align your life with the Kingdom of God—and leave a legacy that outlives you. I believe in the power of the Gospel to change everything. I believe our mission is as urgent today as it’s ever been. And I believe that real, relational generosity—when shaped by Jesus—can reach spiritual orphans and reconnect them to the global family of Christ.

A bit about me: I have served churches in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Missouri but I‘ve spent the largest part of my adult life in Indiana with my wife of 35 years. We have two grown children, a fantastic son-in-law and an amazing daughter-in-law, one grandchild, and a Bernadoodle named Molly. I’m a fan of jazz, long hikes, good books, and slow-smoked BBQ- especially when I get to smoke the BBQ! But more than hobbies, I care about building something lasting. I really just want to help people know Jesus and enjoy Him more fully.

A significant part of what I will be doing is investing in the lives of our current supporters, bringing value and encouragement to their faith journey as we discover together how to partner together even more effectively in the work the Lord has given us. I look forward to meeting many of you—whether over email, Zoom, at an event, on a mission trip, or through a phone call. If you have a story to share, a question to ask, or a desire to reconnect with what God is doing through SON, I’d love to hear from you.
Let’s grow something beautiful together.
